(NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR) ("Energy Fuels" or the "Company"), a leading U.S. producer of uranium, rare earth elements ("REE"), and vanadium, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with Astron Corporation Limited ("Astron") to jointly develop the Donald Rare Earth and Mineral Sands Project, located in the Wimmera Region of the State of Victoria, Australia (the "Donald Project"). The MOU describes indicative commercial terms and provides Energy Fuels with a binding exclusivity period to end on March 1, 2024, during which Energy Fuels will be entitled to conduct due diligence and the parties will negotiate definitive agreements.


The Donald Project is a world-class, world scale, 'shovel-ready' critical mineral deposit that Energy Fuels believes would provide it with another near-term, low-cost, and large-scale source of monazite sand in an REE concentrate ("REEC") that would be transported to the Company's White Mesa Mill in Utah, USA (the "Mill") for processing into REE oxides and other advanced REE materials and recovery of the contained uranium. Energy Fuels is announcing this non-binding MOU at this time, because Astron has determined that it is required to announce the MOU at this time under applicable Australian Securities Exchange ("ASX") rules.

Energy Fuels Inc. and Astron Corporation Limited have recently formed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop the Donald Rare Earth and Mineral Sands Project. Energy Fuels starts production at three uranium mines as metal prices rise

Dec 21 (Reuters) - U.S.-based Energy Fuels said on Thursday it had started production at three of its permitted and developed uranium mines in Arizona and Utah, encouraged by higher prices of the heavy metal.

Shares of the company rose 2% to $7.10 in premarket trading.

The company is also preparing two more mines in Colorado and Wyoming for expected production within a year and advancing permitting on several other large-scale U.S. mine projects to increase uranium production in the coming years.

Energy Fuels said it expects to be producing uranium at a run-rate of 1.1 million to 1.4 million pounds per year, once production is fully ramped up at the three mines - Pinyon Plain, La Sal and Pandora - by mid- to late-2024.

Ein Gesetz, das die Einfuhr von angereichertem russischem Uran in die USA verbieten würde, liegt dem US-Repräsentantenhaus zur Abstimmung vor.
Das Gesetz zum Verbot russischer Uranimporte der Washingtoner Abgeordneten Cathy McMorris Rodgers soll nächste Woche im Rahmen eines beschleunigten Verfahrens geprüft werden, für dessen Verabschiedung eine Zweidrittelmehrheit erforderlich ist, so der Sitzungsplan des Repräsentantenhauses.
Nach der russischen Invasion in der Ukraine wächst die Unterstützung für ein Importverbot für Kernreaktorbrennstoff aus Russland sowohl bei Demokraten als auch bei Republikanern. Den mit der Angelegenheit vertrauten Personen zufolge haben seine Befürworter versucht, die Maßnahme an eine zwingend zu verabschiedende Gesetzgebung zu knüpfen. Die Verabschiedung eines eigenständigen Gesetzentwurfs im Repräsentantenhaus würde die Möglichkeit eröffnen, das gleiche Gesetz im Senat zu verabschieden.
Nach Angaben des Energieministeriums lieferte Russland fast ein Viertel des angereicherten Urans, mit dem Amerikas Flotte von mehr als 90 kommerziellen Reaktoren betrieben wird, und war damit im vergangenen Jahr der größte Lieferant der USA.
Das Gesetz, das russische Uranimporte 90 Tage nach Inkrafttreten verbietet und gleichzeitig eine vorübergehende Ausnahme bis Januar 2028 ermöglicht, wurde im Mai von einem Ausschuss des Repräsentantenhauses genehmigt. Ein Senatsgremium genehmigte ein ähnliches Gesetz, das sowohl vom demokratischen Senator Joe Manchin aus West Virginia als auch vom Republikaner John Barrasso aus Wyoming unterstützt wurde, die als oberste Gesetzgeber im Ausschuss für Energie und natürliche Ressourcen des Senats fungieren.
Laut einer Analyse der überparteilichen Haushaltsschätzer des Kongresses würde die Gesetzgebung des Repräsentantenhauses die Kosten für Kernbrennstoffe in den USA um 13 % erhöhen.
Der Gesetzentwurf würde „den Zugang zu relativ kostengünstigen russischen Anreicherungsdiensten einschränken und zu Störungen auf dem Markt für Kernbrennstoffe führen, wodurch der durchschnittliche Brennstoffpreis für US-Atomreaktoren steigen und ihre durchschnittlichen Betriebsmargen sinken würden“, heißt es in seinem Schreiben des Congressional Budget Office Analyse der Rechnung.
Die Biden-Regierung hat vom Kongress mehr als 2 Milliarden US-Dollar beantragt, um die inländischen Anreicherungskapazitäten der USA zu erhöhen. Dazu gehört sowohl hochangereichertes Uran, das für eine neue Generation fortschrittlicher Reaktoren benötigt wird, als auch niedrig angereichertes Uran, das in traditionellen Kernkraftwerken als Brennstoff verwendet wird

Nuclear sector must overcome decades of stagnation to meet COP28 tripling goal

DUBAI, Dec 7 (Reuters) - The global nuclear industry got a morale boost at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai after more than 20 nations vowed to triple capacity by 2050.

But reaching that goal will require the industry to overcome regulatory hurdles, financing obstacles, fuel bottlenecks, and public safety concerns that have contributed to a long history of project delays and decades of stagnation.

It took 70 years to bring global nuclear capacity to the current level of 370 gigawatts (GW), and the industry must now select technologies, raise finance and develop the rules to build another 740 GW in half that time.

"Judging by the international nuclear industry's performance over the past two decades, it is impossible," said Mycle Schneider, lead author of the World Nuclear Industry Status Report.

The declaration, signed by the U.S., France, Britain, South Korea, and others commits countries to mobilise investment and encourage financial institutions like the World Bank to back nuclear power.

It also promises efforts to extend the life of existing plants - with about 200 of 420 reactors around the world scheduled to be decommisioned before 2050 - and support for new technologies like small modular reactors (SMRs).

There are currently 60 commercial reactors under construction in 17 countries across the world, with China accounting for 25, according to the World Nuclear Association.
