Eni: could it join the $100-bln club?
Not all majors are equal. U.S. integrated oils are much bigger than their European peers and, more broadly, there is a clear gap between those worth $100 billion or more and those below $20 billion.

Barclays has spotted an anomaly, which is Eni ENI.MI, whose value stands just in the middle at around $50 billion.

Being bullish about the Italian group, the UK bank has looked at what it could take for Eni to join the $100-bln club. Turns out such an ambition might not be totally out of reach.

Barclays analyst Lydia Rainforth expects Eni to keep outperforming its group, helped by attractive cash returns, an upstream business that is growing faster of that of its large-cap peers and a clear energy transition strategy in downstream.

"Eni would need both good operational momentum and support from oil and gas prices in order to move to the $100bn club. Right now, $100bn is likely a stretch too far, but we think an interim $75bn is a feasible achievement," she says.

"With the right market conditions, Eni's market cap could reach $100bn," she adds.

Eni's (E) Plenitude Secures 80% Stake in US Solar Farm Trio
Eni SpA’s renewables arm, Plenitude, has taken a significant step in expanding its U.S. solar portfolio with the acquisition of an 80% stake in three solar photovoltaic plants. The deal, announced on Wednesday, involves the purchase from EDP Renewables and encompasses the Timber Road and Blue Harvest solar farms in Ohio, along with the Cattlemen plant in Texas, covering a vast expanse of 1,500 hectares.

Plenitude's share in this venture amounts to an impressive 272 megawatt alternating current (MWac) out of the total 340 MWac installed capacity across the three solar farms. These strategic additions are expected to contribute more than 800 MW hours/year of clean power to the U.S. energy grid.

The move aligns with Plenitude's ambition to achieve 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity in the United States, contributing to its global target of 7 GW by 2026. Stefano Goberti, the CEO of Plenitude, expressed the company's satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing the positive impact on their overall capacity and the advancement of clean energy goals.

Eni's Plenitude unit valued at 10 billion euros in deal with EIP
MILAN, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Eni (ENI.MI) has agreed to sell a 9% stake in its low-carbon and retail unit to Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) through a deal that values the unit at 10 billion euros ($10.95 billion)including debt, the Italian energy company said on Thursday.

Under the agreement, EIP will enter Plenitude's share capital through a capital increase of up to 700 million euros, which, post-transaction, would be approximately 9% of the company.

The deal is expected to set a floor for the price of Plenitude in a potential future listing on the Milan stock exchange.

Italy's Eni wins $600 mln case against Germany's Uniper

LONDON/MILAN/FRANKFURT, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Uniper (UN01.DE) has to pay 550 million euros ($600 million) to Italy's Eni (ENI.MI), three trading sources said on Monday, as a result of an arbitration court ruling over a liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contract that expired in 2022.

Uniper, Germany's largest gas trader, late on Sunday disclosed the award, saying it had to make the payment to a European energy company without identifying it.

The arbitration proceedings, under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, began in early 2021 and relate to the pricing provisions of a long-term LNG supply agreement with the counterparty, Uniper said.

The LNG contract in question was concluded before Uniper's spin-off from E.ON (EONGn.DE) in 2016 and expired last year, Uniper said, adding that no further financial fallout was to be expected as a result.

Eni supplied Uniper with 0.65 million tonnes of LNG per year between 2007 and 2022, according to the 2017 annual report by the International Group of LNG Importers (GIIGNL).

Italy's Eni to invest $10 bln in Ivory Coast Baleine field, minister says
ABIDJAN, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni ENI.MI will invest $10 billion in the development of the Baleine field offshore Ivory Coast, which will take place in three phases from 2023 to 2027, Energy Minister Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly said on Thursday.

The Baleine field, where certified reserves are estimated at 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, was discovered in 2021 by the Italian energy group off the east coast of the West African country.

The field's crude oil production should reach 200,000 barrels per day by 2027, compared with 30,000 barrels per day in 2023, the energy minister said.

"With a total investment estimated at $10 billion, the Baleine project will have a lasting impact on our economy," he added.

Italy takes first step in flagship cooperation plan with Africa, draft shows
ROME, Nov 2 (Reuters) - A management structure including politicians and state-controlled firms will be in charge of an Italian government plan to boost energy cooperation with African countries and help curb mass illegal migration, a draft decree showed on Thursday.

The project, a flagship proposal of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has been named after Enrico Mattei, founder of state-controlled oil and gas major Eni (ENI.MI), but will lay the ground for cooperation beyond energy.

Under the draft decree, which is expected to be approved by the cabinet on Friday, Italy will help African nations in areas including education, exports, infrastructures, health and sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

Meloni previously said the project would aim to turn Italy into a major energy hub, distributing gas from North Africa and the Mediterranean to the rest of Europe, and address the root economic causes of mass migration from Africa.

"The Mattei Plan encourages the involvement of African states in the identification, definition and implementation of the Plan's interventions," the draft said.

Once heavily reliant on Russian gas, Italy managed to reduce such dependence since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and now imports the fuel mostly from North Africa through several shippers including Eni, which will play a key role in helping Italy implement the Mattei plan, government officials said.
