Eni bets on agri-business in Africa to expand biofuel production
MILAN, June 1 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) is investing in farming in several African and Asian countries as it aims to produce by itself around one fifth of the agricultural feedstock it will need for its biofuel business by 2025, two top executives at the energy group said.

Energy companies are betting on increasing demand for fuels made from vegetable oil, waste cooking oil and grease, which they say will play a key role in decarbonising the truck, aviation and shipping sectors in coming years.

To satisfy this expected demand, Eni is ramping up its bio-refining capacity and, at the same time, is expanding farming ventures to secure supplies and reduce the risk of excessive volatility in the commodity market.

"Our goal is to cover 20% of (our) biofuel production with feedstock coming from our agri-business by 2025, which is a relevant threshold since we have increased our output targets," Eni Energy Evolution Chief Operating Officer Giuseppe Ricci told Reuters in an interview.

Eni makes oil discovery in offshore Mexico
Italian oil and gas major Eni SpA on Friday said it had discovered oil in the Sureste Basin offshore Mexico in a prospect that could contain around 200 million barrels of oil in place.

The discovery was made on the Yatzil exploration prospect in Block 7, which is located in the mid-deep water of the Cuenca Salina in the Sureste Basin.

This is not the first discovery for the Italian energy major in the basin. Three years ago, Eni announced a discovery in the Sureste Basin, saying it could contain between 200 and 300 million barrels of crude oil. That discovery was made in Block 10, in which Eni is the operator and holds the majority stake.

In Block 7, the joint venture partners include Eni, which is the operator with a 45% stake, Capricorn with 30%, and Citla Energy with a 25% interest.

MILAN, March 16 (Reuters) - Italian energy group Eni said it would propose a 2.2 billion euros new shares buyback programme to shareholders.

The group plans to start the shares buyback programme this year and may increase the amount up to 3.5 billion euros in case of upside scenarios.

Eni pledges higher investor returns, defends gas role
ROME (Reuters) - Italian energy group Eni pledged to return more cash to investors after reporting record profit last year and defended its strategy of continuing to invest in gas.

Shares in Eni fell as much as 5.4% despite the company becoming the latest energy group to report bumper results for 2022, underpinned by an unprecedented spike in commodity prices due to the war in Ukraine.

Eni Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi said he was not surprised at the market reaction.

"The updated strategy and the new remuneration policy need to be digested by investors... it normally takes one to two weeks," the CEO told journalists.

Presenting its 2023-2026 strategy, the group said it would raise its 2023 dividend by 7% and buy back shares worth 2.2 billion euros ($2.3 billion).

It also announced it was severing the link between the price of Brent oil and its remuneration policy.

"First we wanted to simplify (the remuneration policy) and also we wanted to acknowledge that Plenitude (retail and renewables), bio-refineries and other non-oil businesses are growing," Descalzi said.

As a rule for the medium-term, Eni pledged to return to investors between 25% and 30% of its cash flow for operations (CFFO) through a combination of dividend and share buybacks.

In upside scenarios, the company expects to apply a figure of 35% of incremental CFFO for distribution.

China's CNPC set to seal mega Qatari LNG deal -sources
Zitat von Oginvest: SINGAPORE/LONDON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) is close to finalising a deal to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from QatarEnergy over nearly 30 years from the Middle Eastern exporter's massive North Field expansion project, three people with knowledge of the matter said.

If sealed, this would be the second such deal between major LNG exporter Qatar and the world's no.2 LNG buyer, as Beijing looks to beef up gas supply and diversify its sources in a drive to replace coal and cut carbon emissions.

CNPC's talks follow a deal announced last November by China's Sinopec, in which QatarEnergy agreed to supply 4 million tonnes of LNG annually for 27 years, the longest duration LNG supply contract ever signed by Qatar.

      ...
Each of the five majors -- TotalEnergies , ExxonMobil (XOM.N), ConocoPhillips (COP.N), ENI (ENI.MI) and Shell (SHEL.L) -- signed a joint-venture agreement with QatarEnergy that includes an equity investment in liquefaction export facilities.

Possible Eni will take Chevron IDD stake in mid-2023 -Indonesia official
BENGALURU, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni SpA (ENI.MI) could take over Chevron's (CVX.N) stake in and operatorship of the Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) gas project by mid-2023, a senior Indonesian energy ministry official said on Tuesday.

"Currently Eni is working, and so far, so good," Tutuka Ariadji, director general of oil and gas at Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said on the sidelines of the India Energy Week conference.

"So maybe in the middle of this year we can finish the business matters. So far the progress is good," Ariadji said.

      ...
Chevron announced in January 2020 that it was scaling down ambitions for natural gas extraction from the project, saying its second stage was "not able to compete for capital in Chevron's global portfolio".

Italy to use EU funds to become energy hub for Europe, Meloni says
ROME (Reuters) - Italy intends to use funds coming from the European Union under the so-called REPowerEU plan to completely wean itself off Russian gas and turn the country into energy hub for the bloc, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement.

Meloni - who met on Monday with relevant ministers and the CEOs of energy groups Eni, Enel (BIT:ENEI), Snam and Terna - mentioned the need to cooperate with Africa on energy supplies.

With total funds close to 300 billion euros ($321.36 billion), the REPowerEU plan is aimed at ending the EU's dependence on Russian fossil fuels and tackling the climate crisis.

It includes about 225 billion euros of untapped loans made available under the NextGenerationEU pandemic recovery plan launched in 2021.
